I just read Donita's bio on the newsletter and decided I would like to share something about how yoga has benefitted me. Less than five weeks ago I had total knee replacement (That's why I haven't been around) but here's the great news. I've been having physical therapy at home and today had a balance test which helps assess how the knee is healing and strengthening. There were several parts to the test and despite being 70+, I scored 100 %. I really give a lot of credit to my doing yoga consistently for years and most especially Iyengar. I hope to be back in the therapeutic class in a month or two and then get back to regular classes. Yoga has changed my life and my body.

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed my class! I plan on returning weekly! I thought the instructor was gentle, informative and very knowledgeable about his techniques. I have been doing yoga for 16 years -off and on- and really love the calming effect it has! I also have a back condition and love that you offer a back class!

I first started practicing Yoga at the Iyengar Centre 5 years ago at the age of 75. At the time, I was about to give up my volunteer work with Operation Smile. This involved performing surgery on children in underdeveloped countries. The operating days were long, perhaps 4 or 5 surgeries every day, and at the end of the trip I had quite severe back pain resulting from my posture at the operating table.

However, since learning and practicing (as a complete beginner) Yoga with the excellent instructors at the Iyengar centre, my back pain has disappeared. With the help of exercises before starting my surgery day I am now able to put in a full day of surgery without any discomfort. I plan to continue both operating and practicing Yoga as long as possible. It has made a huge difference to my life, and I hope that of the children I am still able to help.

As a physician and a practitioner, I am a great fan of the Iyengar Yoga Center of Denver.  I have been attending classes regularly since the center opened 11 years ago and frequently recommend yoga to my pediatric and adolescent patients and their parents.  I respect the many years of training that the teachers have and appreciate the intelligent way that they teach.  I came to Iyengar yoga because of injuries that I had incurred in my previous yoga practice.  Through the use of props and very caring and well trained teachers I have developed a practice that not only prevents injury but also has been incredibly therapeutic in helping me deal with the number of maladies that occur with aging!  The practice of yoga has been and continues to be an amazing influence in all aspects of my life.  IYCD is a gem and I highly recommend that you come visit regardless of your age or physical condition! As a student, the IYCD provides wonderful instruction in all aspects of yoga and is a welcoming, supportive community.  I am very grateful to the skilled and compassionate teachers who have helped me deepen my practice and deal with challenges like knee surgery. I started this kind of yoga when Donita and Gary introduced it at my athletic club and 6 months later came to the studio.  Iyengar has changed my body and enriched my life. The great thing is that using props enables one to do poses that wouldn't be possible or correct otherwise, and as one ages, it makes a world of difference.

After a few fertility issues my doctors and fertility experts seemed to have one agenda with me drugs and more drugs. This was not the road I wanted to take so I decided to get healthy in my mind and body. My acupuncturist told me to start doing Yoga and highly recommended Lisa wolf of Iyengar yoga centre, She explained that it was not just a exercise yoga but a therapeutic yoga, In essence real yoga and she felt it would help me hugely with fertility.

I went to Lisa and within 5 months I was pregnant. Lisa worked on really opening me up in places that were necessary in order for me to achieve a successful implantation and maintaing a viable pregnancy. She even helped hugely with a successful ovulation through various poses and visualization. Lisa has a way of just tuning into each individual and knowing what they need specifically.

I continued working with lisa throughout my entire pregnancy and am very pleased to say I had a wonderful pregnancy experience, I did not seem to have any of the usually suspect symptoms other women had! I am 39 weeks now and awaiting arrival of our little girl. I am so happy I went full term and all my tests have positive results. I know yoga with Lisa has been a intricate part of my great results and experience and I am so glad I decided to do this instead of going down the road of very expensive alternative western medicine and I am pleased that the only drug I am  taking is my prenatal vitamin.

I highly recommend Lisa for before you try and get pregnant to prepare your body and during your pregnancy. Lisa is a expert at all things fertility and you will be so glad you joined up for her course and I suspect your future little baby will be very happy to:)


  • Basics

    We encourage students with no experience in Iyengar Yoga to take a Basics Series, which lays the foundation for your practice and prepares you for progression to Level 1.

    This SIX WEEK introductory series provides students new to the Iyengar method with the fundamentals of yoga postures. The Basics Series consists of one 90 minute class per week for SIX consecutive weeks

    All Levels class to help you transition from work week to weekend.  Tada (Mountain) Warrior yoga to keep Coloradoans balanced, stretched, strong, and healthy!

  • Back Care

    Sequences and adapted poses specifically for structural back issues, injuries, and general backache.

  • Community Class

    Do something good for yourself and for others.  Nurture yourself through asana practice.  Give to non-profit organizations through the altruistic practice of karma yoga in this donation-based class.

  • Guided Open Practice

    Facilitated guided self-discovery for practitioners of all levels.  

  • Healthy Joints
    This class promotes biomechanical health (or said another way, freedom of movement).  With more freedom of body comes freedom of mind!

    These yoga sequences have been designed to work through chronic pain & injuries, general aches & stiffness, and work for the inflexible, hyper flexible and the aging body.  Practice asana using the floor and gravity to neutralize stress and tension in the passive body.  Work from your joints, and not your muscles, to maintain or return your body to its optimal structure and functionality.  Use small actions to make big changes in your body and your Self.

    (This class was formerly called Seated and Supine and is based on the methods of Francisco Kaiut.)

  • Level 1

    For continuing beginner students of Iyengar Yoga, this yoga class provides the foundation for the study of Iyengar yoga.

  • Level 2

    For students who are well practiced in Level 1 postures, including Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulderstand), this yoga class offers deeper and expanded study of the fundamental Iyengar yoga poses with increased study of inversions and backward extensions.

  • Level 3

    This yoga class is geared toward students developing a home practice with a firm understanding of the fundamental poses in the Iyengar yoga tradition, including Salamba Sarvangasana and Sirsasana. Students will learn how to go deeper in their practice.

  • Meditation

    Complement your Asana (posture) and Pranayama (breath control) practices with Pratyahara (withdrawl of the senses) Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation).

    Donation based.  Meditation experience NOT necessary.

  • Prenatal/Yoga for Fertility

    A Yoga practice of asana and pranayama to build health for fertility in preparation for pregnancy and to make space for baby and ready expecting moms for childbirth. This class is appropriate for women who are trying to conceive naturally or going thru assisted reproductive treatment.

  • Restorative

    This yoga class uses rejuvenating and supported yoga poses that restores energy and relieves chronic tension.

  • Seniors

    Slower paced with special attention to senior needs.

  • Seniors 2

    Advanced class for Seniors with an ongoing, dedicated yoga practice.  One year minimum of Iyengar Yoga recommended.

  • Teacher's Class

    Peer teaching, intermediate poses, therapeutic modifications to asanas. 

  • Women's Class

    A class for women only, where postures are worked on in a safe and nurturing environment.

  • Yoga for Scoliosis

    This class is for students with scoliosis or spinal asymmetries.  Students will learn more about their curves and how the yoga practice may help manage scoliosis progression and discomfort. The class will include basic practice guidelines and useful posture modifications.  All levels welcome.
